Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made tooth coverings made to look like natural teeth. Veneers bond to the surface of your natural teeth to improve their alignment and shape, or to change their size and color.

What dental imperfections can veneers fix?

Veneers improve many common dental imperfections, including:

  • Tooth stains or discoloration
  • Chipped teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misalignment
  • Irregular shape

Veneers give you a smile you can’t wait to show off! Talk to the team at Presidential Dental Group to find out if veneers are right for you.

How do I care for veneers?

Taking care of veneers is identical to standard oral hygiene practices. You’ll want to brush and floss at least twice per day. Because veneers can crack or chip under pressure, you should avoid chewing on hard objects, biting your nails, hard candy, or chewing ice.

To prolong the life of your veneers, in addition to caring for your teeth at home, make sure to schedule twice-annual dental cleanings and exams.

What should I expect when getting veneers?

Getting veneers is a multi-step procedure over two or three visits to Presidential Dental Group. At the first visit, your dentist evaluates your teeth to determine whether you’re a candidate for veneers. If you need restorative dentistry such as dental fillings or implants, these appointments are scheduled before starting veneers.

Your dentist shaves a very thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth to prepare for the veneers. Impressions of your new smile are taken and a set of temporary veneers are applied to your teeth while your porcelain veneers are created.

At your next appointment, the temporary veneers are removed and the permanent veneers are applied to your teeth with dental bonding cement.

Are veneers permanent?

While veneers are not considered permanent, if you care for them properly and visit the dentist for regular cleanings and exams, your veneers should last 10 years or more. Veneers can be replaced if they become cracked or chipped to maintain your amazing smile.
